Talked to a guy today who somehow wired a front lightbar and ditch lights to his headlight switch. So turning his headlights on turns all that other shit on as well. Effectively blinding everybody.

Please use your lightbars responsibly. Also remember to not put HID bulbs in stock housings.

This. IIRC civilized countries require opaque covers on auxiliary lighting while the vehicle is on the road. I 100% support this. It looks cool and prevents you from blinding people intentionally and/ or accidentally. [Citation needed, but I don’t remember when/ where I read that]

It won’t be long before he gets pulled over and cited. It’s illegal to use light bars on the street in most places.

That being said, I saw a guy with a light bar on his brush guard. His headlights were so cloudy that they were effectively useless. Without the light bar, he probably couldn’t see more than 10 feet.

This pisses me off so bad. Also yes times a million for HID in standard housings.

you overestimate the level of caring a cop has towards seeing a brodozer with a lighbar turned on. also most brodozer driving folks will probably just say whoops my bad forgot to turn it off, turn them off, drive away then turn them right back on once theyre out of sight

Eh, I don’t have a lightbar, but if I did, I’d rather not have a law barring me from using it when no one else is around. Turning them off with a switch is a lot easier than putting the covers back on manually.

I think it is/ was a UK thing. I’m sure covers telling people to cover their lights is regarded as unconstitutional... for some reason.

Oh hey, quick google says yes, some states have laws requiring covers. Good for those states.

I think it depends on the lighting and wattage. Generally: Fog lights (which aren’t supposed to use more the 35W anyway) are generally uncovered at all times. Spot lights or driving lights may or may not be covered, depending on the wattage. Roof mounted lights must be covered while the vehicle is on the road.

In states that have laws, I think the general rule is anything over 35W is for “off road” use and needs to be covered. This stuff is almost never enforced unless a cop is just being a dick and trying to see how many different things he can cite somebody for while he’s got them for a speeding ticket.

I think more countries need to follow China’s example of having offending drivers stare into their lights as punishment.

TBH I owned a project with HID replacements and people kept flashing me thinking my brights were on. Can confirm antecdotally that HID replacements are bad.

There’s some joker driving around my town in a big tall pickup truck. At night his regular headlights are off; instead he’s got this horizontal light bar about three feet wide and two smaller LED lights on either side about three feet off the ground. It is absolutely blinding. It’s so God damn bright it leaves a big blind spot in my vision after he passes.

Other people going in my direction turn on their brights in retaliation. Sooner or later somebody’s going to follow him into a parking lot, and they’re going to wait until he walks away from the truck and then take a tire iron to his Klieg light.

So about the same lumens as a Q8... How the fuck are these new cars legal? They blind the shit out of us.

Like every new Acura. I swear they intentionally make the headlights unnecessarily bright and then use it as the only selling point for their cars.
